The mysterious forest is inhabited by tribes of cannibalistic mutants. These artificially intelligent, non-playable characters will react to you in two ways: they can eat you right away, or study your movements and eat you later on. Your only option is to explore the island and scavenge for resources. Along the way, you find that things are more terrifying than it seems.
The game begins with you regaining consciousness at the back of the airplane. You can then begin looting the plane. The most important item is the ax as it allows you to break open cases and bags. It is also important to treat your wounds with bandages and medicine from the first aid kit.
Before exiting the plane, you will need to see the end of the forest. It should be close to some trees, but outside of dense, wooded areas. This is a good place to build your first shelter. The shelter should have a hunting station, fire pit, and drying rack. You can also create shelter near water so you will always have access to water for drinking and for cleansing your wounds.
The most important but also most difficult areas of the forest are the caves. These are extremely dark and tight spaces in the game where you will find the most loot. It can vary from camera footage to drawings so its best to keep them in your inventory. Other items can be useless alone, but you can put them together to form a weapon.
For example, you can put together a stick with five feathers to create an arrow. The Forest has both a frightening premise and appearance. Its three-dimensional graphics mimic the real-life appearance of humans, animals, and wildlife. The primary goal of The Forest is survival, making it a suitable choice for gamers that are looking for a challenging yet rewarding gaming experience.
Now what makes this game so special is simply the genre itself of being a survival and horror game. It also takes a unique spin on the style, because it does not follow a straight path from objective to objective as most stories do. Rather it is an open world environment and there are no actual quests or missions at all. You are simply tasked with surviving by any means necessary which gives the ultimate freedom and power of the game to the individual playing it, this is by far one of the best aspects of this game.
This game was a huge success and sold over five million copies within the first year of its launch. To be clear the story involves you and your son trying to survive in a forest after first surviving a plane crash. Little do you know, but there are cannibals on this island that are hiding in caves waiting to eat you. As with many horror games, everything gets worse when the sun goes down and in this case the cannibals are much more aggressive.
However the interesting thing is that the game makes you second guess whether they are your true enemies or not. They will do many different things such as simply watch you from a distance or try to scout out your campsite or sometimes simply attack you.
Now we have mentioned that there are no set objectives, but there is still an optional ending that you can reach. We will not tell you what the ending is, because we feel like we have already given you too many pointers or spoilers for the game to begin with. However, promise us when we tell you that this game is unlike any other especially since it is an open world without any objectives at all.
What also makes it unique is that this game is strictly first person view only whereas most games, especially an open world game relies heavily on the use of third person views or at least gives you the option to have that camera. Since they are nocturnal they are seen outside of the caves most during the night. Developers want the player to discover for themselves if the tribe of cannibals are actually a danger to the players character.
When the game begins The Forest has the creatures just seeming to be curious about the player. Combat with the mutants in The Forest involves groups of them trying to protect their own.
They will take cover behind nearby objects and help out the members of their tribe they have been injured.
